Spring Classic entries

Who will enter The Spring Classic race in April, it is approaching fast. (April 5th and 6th) The sanction has been approved with COR boats on it.

Let's get a head count started. We will need at least 4 confirmed boats to have a race. Should you enter and the race doesn't happen for the COR class, I'm sure Ross will refund your entry fee.

Emilio Mijares with the #9 Will be in.

Sorry, but our budget will only allow us to go to the Long Beach race and the two in Bakersfield. There's a possibility Lonnie Morris might be heading down that way if he gets the final touches done on his boat. Have fun and good luck!

The #88 HST will run in the COR class as a "SPORTSMAN". All this depending upon the flooding on the Mississippi, and the arrival of my 1962 Century Resorter. Rod

I was just informed that the COR class is now on suspension with the APBA. The APBA has formed a committee that will develop and present a list of safety recommendations to the Board. The outcome of that effort will decide the future of COR Racing at APBA sanctioned events. Pending the outcome of the Board's decision, we can determine a future direction.

Saturday, April 5th we will hold the 1st Annual COR Spring Classic in Parker AZ. The gathering will start at 11:00, Brats and Dogs along with soft drinks will be served before noon. Safety Meeting will end by 1:00. There is a free public launch right down the road from the meeting. If you bring your boat, good chance we can look over the boats for safety considerations, do some testing, and run the river. There is no entry fee as this is not a sanctioned gathering. This is a gathering of friends and classic runabout boat owners. Meeting will be held at the entrance of the Moovalya Keys.

Who's in?

Propman's picture

Good idea Mike. The timing is perfect. For those not on the water, I assume beer will involved, I think we might better call it the Greg Belda Memorial Spring Classic. Count me in.

Outlaw boat racing, I like it :)

Hopefully many of the COR guys will still come out to Parker to spectate over a beer or seven. It's gonna suck not seeing a bunch of good friends I have met over the years.

After my post above, I'm bewildered to the fact that nobody has responded to it in more detail. Where does COR really stand? I firmly believe somebody has privy to more than what has been told.

The real question for me is, do I own a useless boat? If COR is now defunct as a sanctioned class at organized events it would be only ethical by whomever to say now. This way we can put our boat up for sale as soon as possible so we might be able to purchase a race car and go racing before our local tracks end their season.

I don't know about the rest of you, but we are true racers and we would like to get the ball rolling. I've never been one to wait around for someone else to make a decision at their convenience that directly affects my situation and or priorities. Thank you!

Look at it this way, If they haven't made a decision yet, that's a good thing. That means they're reviewing all aspects of this and not making a quick decision of shutting it down. Since I'm not a true racer and I'm willing to wait for an answer, how much for the GMT?

I"m not sure whether or not you're being a little bit sarcastic, but $ 13,500 for everything I have.

Well said #45.

Meeting date is the 5th.

After re-reading my post, I can see where my statement "true racers" could be construed as being pompous. Not my intent.

Maybe I can clear up my statement by saying my family as been intensely involved in motorsports for the last 20 years based around my son's racing career and I personally have been involved in it for 40+ years. I could compare our feeling towards a race weekend to much like a regular family looking forward to going to Disneyland. After these 20+ years of solely being involved in racing every weekend we really don't have any other hobbies or interests. We sometimes try to think of other things to do, but we always come up short. Kind of like the old saying "can't teach an old dog new tricks".

So here we are not sure of what is going to happen and would just like to set a plan in motion so we can get our needed "seasonal fix" in.

This is what I meant by "true racers". It was not meant by any stretch of the imagination to demean others.

I talked to Dora Belda today. She is hanging in there with all the things going on. I told her that COR was suspended and we would not be at Parker. She remembered someone saying they we were going to do something there at the race to remember Greg. I explained we were still talking about doing something up river as a group to remember Greg, have a BBQ, and run the river. Dora and Jonathan said they wanted to be there. So, the "Greg Belda Memorial Spring Classic" is on. I will be there and hope we can get the rest of the crew there. Noon Saturday 4-5-14 as Mike suggested. So if anyone wants to make anything up (stickers etc.) please do so. I will have some shirts made. Let me know your size.

New COR Member. Welcome James Arce, who will be coming down to Parker on April 5th. He has purchased my 18'6" Baker and will be setting it up with Lonnie Morris. I am sure he might appreciate a few tips from the other Baker owners.

Just want to say thanks for the welcome, and it would be good to meet everybody.

It is wonderful to see the COR family coming together like it is! Unfortunately I cannot be with you all. As is normal this time of year, I am fighting the rising water of the Mississippi river. At the same time, I am having a Century Resorter (woodie) delivered to our cabin. It seems like all of the balls are in the air at the same time. I am hoping that the safety committee will come up with a solution that the COR racers can live with. For sure, everybody will not be happy, but we will have to live with the outcome. Hopefully we will not lose the entire season and will be back on the water as soon as possible. Good luck and enjoy the continuation of Greg Belda's life! Rod

I need an XL.

flying finn's picture

I sent a E-mail out about the COR get together changes at Parker. We are testing and meeting up river Sat morning thru afternoon. Then we are going down to the Blue Water Cantina 4 to 5pm to meet up with Dora and her family. Let me know about tee shirts. Last call.

Capnzee88's picture

Greg, you are doing a masterful job of "putting things together"! Wish I could be there. If you would hold out 1 XXL shirt, I am sure they will be of very good quality. Rod

STV_Keith's picture

Greg, I doubt that I will make Parker that weekend, but please set aside one XL and one S (or smallest) for Faith and I.

I ordered the shirts according to everbody's request. I might have some extras. If someone could post directions to the ramp up river at Parker, that would be appreciated. FYI, Dutch Squires, special events chair and APBA Vice President will be at Parker and said he would meet with COR as a group as time permits.

STV_Keith's picture

Greg, here's the closest public Ramp to the Keys. There is one in the Keys too, but it's behind the gate. Mike may be able to get people in.

This one is just North of the old Enduro (short course) North turn.

Keith-

Flying Finn,

Thank you for the update on the APBA S.E. Chairman/VP. This looks to be a step in the right direction. I hope he makes time to meet with the COR group. I also hope this is a productive meeting with straight forward information from this chairman so we know what is in store for the future of COR.

My first question to him would be, "Is APBA going to resolve whatever the problem they have with this class by May so that we may be included on the sanction for the race at Ming?" I sincerely hope so.

007's picture

Keith is correct. This is the public ramp just down the road from the BBQ. https://www.google.com/maps/place/8690+Navajo+Ln/@34.2032122,-114.2210732,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x80d186b4ad3d209f:0x28f877dcadc56b71

There are also two ramps within the Keys (by the meeting location) that we can use but they are single lane, tight and a bit steep.

BBQ starts at 11:00. Meeting will be called to order at 12:00 (noon). Address is: 8690 Navajo, Parker, AZ
